The Norwegian Elkhound is a medium-sized member of the spitz family (dogs with a wolfish face, prick ears, thick coat, and curled tail). They are bold and energetic, and an effective guardian yet friendly. The Norwegian Elkhound is a square and athletic hunting member of the northern dog family. Their unique coloring, weather resistant coat and stable disposition make them an ideal multipurpose dog at work or at play. They play vigorously and like a lot of outdoor exercise. Norwegian Elkhounds are polite with strangers, yet with their keen senses and watchful attitude, they make a dependable alarm dog.
