Music conductor / director for the Missouri River Community Band

The Missouri River Community Band is seeking a new conductor / director for our 2024 - 2025 season and beyond. We are a non-profit wind ensemble consisting of over 75 volunteer musicians that has been performing in the Bismarck-Mandan area for over 20 years.

The Mission Statement of the MRCB is:

- To promote public knowledge and appreciation of the music of the concert band.

- To encourage the youth of the Bismarck-Mandan and surrounding areas to actively participate in school and other music educational opportunities.

- To provide adult wind and percussion instrumentalists and opportunity to improve their musical skills and experience through public performance in the concert band setting.

The director must have an understanding of the bands mission. The director conducts and is responsible for all rehearsals and performances of the band. They will select the musical literature to be rehearsed and performed by the band from local music libraries. The director has control over artistic decisions, taking into account the history and characteristics of the band, and will be open to suggestions from the Board of Directors and band members. The director must be enthusiastic, knowledgeable in concert band repertoire, and is expected to create a solid and friendly rapport with the musicians. They are expected to establish and maintain a professional rapport with band directors at all levels within the Bismarck-Mandan and surrounding area to promote the mission of the band.

The director is expected to attend meetings of the Board of Directors, providing input into the direction and administration of the band.

Minimum qualifications for consideration for this position are a Bachelors degree or higher in a music-related field and demonstrated experience as a band director/conductor. The position is a paid position.
