Description: This part-time position is responsible for providing direct assistance to the public at the Adult Information Desk, and assisting with carrying out Adult Services Department operations, assigned tasks, and special departmental projects. Works an average of 8 hours per week. Scheduled hours are Thursday evenings 4:30pm-9:00pm and rotating weekend shifts.
Examples of Duties
Greets patrons, listens to and understands patron requests, and accurately provides assistance or, if necessary, refers to the duty librarian or other staff member as appropriate.
Accepts payments for services and makes change quickly and accurately.
Ensures all Adult Information Desk opening and closing procedures are completed accurately.
Participates in covering open shifts to ensure the Adult Information Desk is consistently fully staffed.
Assists patrons with using the online catalog, databases, digital collections, and library equipment, such as microfilm readers, computers, and associated printers and photocopiers.
Consults with the Head of Adult Services or the duty librarian on procedures as appropriate.
Assists with building security by conducting regular walk-throughs on the main, lower, and meeting room levels. Reports any issues of concern to the librarian on duty.
Accurately checks in and distributes newspapers on weekends.
Assists with monitoring and making reservations for study rooms and public access computer stations.
Instructs patrons on computer use and answers questions on the use of software and hardware.
Proficiently uses the librarys computerized circulation system and online catalog to search for and request items and search for and view borrower information.
Performs other duties of a comparable level/type as required
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED is required.
Two years of satisfactory work experience with the public is required.
