Job purpose
The Auto Body Technician/Mechanic is responsible for repairing damage to fleet vehicles, trucks, trailers, and equipment using hand and power tools.
Duties and responsibilities
Examine the damage to company vehicles and equipment and assess/estimate the repair cost and time
Remove various vehicle components to gain access to damaged areas and return the vehicle to its previous condition
Fill dents and depressions with body filler
File, grind, and sand repaired surfaces
Remove and repair or replace damaged fenders and panels
Bolt or weld replacement parts in position
Straighten bent frames
Occasionally cleaning parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent
Repaint damaged or chipped paint
Aim headlights, align wheels, and bleed the hydraulic brake system
Repair or replace defective or damaged mechanical parts
All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations
Qualifications
Minimum two years of auto body repair experience
Possess a valid drivers license
Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment
Working conditions
Indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises
Physical requirements
Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
Standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
