Hi, my name is Oakley, and I'm looking for my forever home!

I'm a 15-month-old male Catahoula/Border Collie mix. I'm a medium-sized boy, probably around 30-50 pounds, with a soft, shiny black coat, one blue eye, one brown eye, and a silly little smile that comes out when I'm happy.

I'm potty-trained and kennel-trained! I know "sit," "come here," "inside," "outside," "potty," "go for a walk," and "no jumping." Sometimes I forget my manners when I'm excited, but I'm smart and eager to learn. Once I've played, eaten, had some water, and gone potty, I settle nicely in my kennel and sleep through the night.

I'm a cuddly, joyful, energetic boy who loves attention. My favorite things are playing ball, tug-of-war, running outside, taking walks, and making you chase me before I give my ball back. I need an active, patient person who will play with me, exercise me, and continue teaching me how to be my best self.

I'm still learning how to walk nicely on a leash. Right now, I pull hard and may bark or lunge when unfamiliar people or dogs pass by. I'm especially nervous around unfamiliar men and loud yelling, but calm voices, patience, and slow introductions help me realize I'm safe. I haven't bitten or injured anyone, although I have air-snapped once or twice when I didn't want to enter my kennel. I didn't make contact, but my new family should continue working with me gently.

I've become playful with one of the three cats in my temporary home, but I still chase the other two when they run. Because of that, I can't promise I'm completely cat-safe yet. I haven't been properly introduced to another dog, and I currently bark at dogs during walks.

Because I'm bouncy and excited, I wouldn't be the best fit around babies, toddlers, or anyone I could accidentally knock over. Older children may be okay with close supervision.

I'm not neutered. My previous family said I'm current on my shots, but records haven't been provided, and nobody knows yet whether I'm microchipped. I also have a sensitive tummy and eat Hill's Science Diet Adult 1-6 Chicken & Barley Recipe.

I'll bring my kennel, collar, leash, food and bowl, ball, and tug toy with me. A quieter home without other pets may be easiest, but an experienced owner who understands slow introductions could also be a good match.

If you think you could be my forever person, please tell my temporary family about your home, pets, dog experience, and how we would spend our days together. I'm looking for someone who will love me, teach me, and give me the safe, active life I deserve.

Melody: If you would like to pick Oakley up, you would have to come to Mandan or meet us somewhere in Bismarck. Unfortunately, we cannot provide transportation outside the Mandan/Bismarck area.
