We got a set of four (two left, two right) K-Hart John Deere conversions to try. We seeded 4,700 acres with the drill, or around 65 acres/opener with them. We aren't going to convert the whole drill at this time, so figured I'd pass them along if someone else wants to try them. Paid $1,200/ each for them, would like to sell the set for $4000.

Most of the questions I have gotten are how we liked them. Overall we were pleased with how they operated. They moved more soil than we expected based on what I'd heard about them. This ended up benefitting our soybeans quite a bit. I can't say that emergence or crop performance seemed any better in the wheat, canola, or peas, though. While they seemed better with hairpinning than the pro series deere openers, this didn't seem to translate to better emergence for whatever reason. The K-harts did seem to perform better in the mud with less plugging, but we put them on the ends of the drill which isn't where we typically have trouble, anyway.

We were trying a stripper header and our hope was these would allow us to seed into it in the spring. Based on this year and how wet the stripped stubble was, we are still exploring options there. I think all the snow melt infiltrated into our soil this spring as the ground never froze under the stripped stubble. With no evaporative drying, seeding into this situation in our climate proved challenging...
