Registered St Croix ewes, rams, ewe lambs available
Registered and registerable St Croix Sheep available.
These animals come from ewes and rams that have never been dewormed (multiple generations), and the mature ewes must lamb twins triplets or quads and raise lambs themselves. They are trained to LGD, rotationally grazed in nets and 2 strands hot wire, and as a rule come when they are called (depends on who is calling).
We chose St Croix breed years ago as we have not used anti parasites on any of our animals in decades. We did not want to have to start now, although if we need to based on fecals we run, we would either cull, deworm and cull or simply butcher the animal - the lines that succumb to worms are not continued here. We have some resilient animals, some resistant and a mix of both keeps things interesting and flexible. The resilent animals wean nice big babies while maintaining higher burden of worms that don't affect them. the resistant ones have lower counts on Fecals. We generally have 15-20% triplets or higher, and a few of our yearlings throw twins also, all on grass hay as we don't flush the ewes before breeding. IF necessary, we try to utilize 10% alfalfa hay as our protein supplement if the sheep need it (as we do feed low quality grass hay and adding alfalfa is based on manure), and they are offered a variety of minerals. The meat is tender and delicious even as mature animal.
We can put together a small flock with 4-5 ewes and a ram at a discount, sell just young ewes, single rams, and there are 2 and 3 year old ewes available also.
